KRAFTWERK; A RETROSPECTIVE

I designed this book to tell the story of the German music group, Kraftwerk, using the style of the Dada art movement. It includes a timeline and lyrical spreads that use experimental typography and image-making techniques. This draws inspiration from the humourous, chaotic, and layered characteristics found in Dada.

PROCESS

I printed out found images, cut them, and collaged them by hand to create visually dynamic compositions. After scanning these in, I began to experiment with type and layout in Adobe InDesign. I collected a vast assortment of typefaces that felt both Kraftwerk and Dadaesque for this layout project.

I spent a lot of time alone in quarantine collaging across my apartment floor. I can not express how much fun this project was for me. From research to execution, I feel as though I became one with the Dada.
